David's Game Ideas

Before any of us could decide to make a game we all agreed that we should come up with our own ideas and then come in to see who's idea was better and then use that persons idea for a game. I have come up with two very basic ideas for a game but at the end none of us could decide who's game was better and so we all started to take parts of each others ideas and put it together to make one whole game that we could all be happy with. These are the two ideas that I have come up with.

Game Idea 1

This idea is still a work in progress so it will most likely change.

Fantasy/ First Person, Thriller, Maze, Puzzle, Choice

My idea for this game is about the Ultimate Goal which is treasure. The treasure itself could just be lots of gold and other valuable things. This treasure could be guarded by some powerful being or creature or perhaps nothing is guarding it at all and the player just has to get past all the obstacles and hardships in order to get to it.

The layout of the game itself contains dungeons, a maze, rooms and finally the treasure chamber itself.
Dungeons could hold creatures that can kill your character ending the game and sometimes items that can be important to help the player progress through the game such as a key or a gold piece (I will explain what some of these items can do later).
The maze is a complex network of puzzles and tricks where the player will have to find their way out of. The maze will also have doorways that will either lead to a room or a dungeon. The player can be given the choice to solve a puzzle because puzzles can either lead to some sort of reward, nothing or the characters death. Just because there is a puzzle doesn't necessarily mean that it will always lead to something good.
Rooms can hold some sort of puzzle but mainly the rooms are for events. These events will hold NPC's and the player will be given choices on how to proceed such as...
You open the door and see three Dwarves sitting down around a table. They are all chatting about something and are smoking while they are all playing cards. They all of sudden stop talking and look at you. How do you proceed?
1. Kill them all.
2. Sit down and join them.
3. Apologise and leave the room.
The player can select one of these choices and see if it was the right or wrong choice. The good thing about these type of choices is that it can lead to another set of choices that can affect how the game is played.

Items will be included that can help the player progress throughout the game. to start out the character could have some type of weapon and provisions. The player will find other items as they progress through the game such as keys, a shield, gold coins and so on.

The reason I want to make a game like this is because of a gamming book called The Warlock of Firetop Mountain, the role-playing game Dungeons and Dragons, the Indie game Legend of Dungeon and finally a game that was made by the previous third years Curse of The Aztecs. All of these games Inspire me to make a game like this because of the puzzles, choices and intensity that are apart of them and that is what I believe makes these type of games fun to play.

These are the programs that I believe should be used in order to make this game.
For 3D Maya and 3DS Max should be used because everyone is familiar with these.
Photoshop should be used for character designs, concept art and other things. Sketches should also be used too.
The Engine itself should be Unity because it's what everyone has learnt to use and if there are problems then it's something that the Tutors can help with because they are also familiar with it.

The coding should either be Java Script or C++.

Game Idea 2

Theme
Medieval, Forest, dark, Moody

Genre
First Person, Horror/Thriller, Obstacles

Plot/Story/Pitch?
Intro: The character is a Cleric and the game starts out in an Inn. While your character is sitting alone with his drink he over hears a conversation between three men, one is a travelling merchant and the other two are just locals. The merchant speaks of a cursed, vast, forest and that there is a village on the outskirts full of terrified people. The merchant moves on to say that the reason why the forest is cursed because people just started to disappear inside of it and that the village have sent out a search party but none have returned and that the people have come to name the cursed forest The Black Forest. The Cleric gets up and asks merchant where he may find this village. The three men look at him with confused looks on their faces and the merchant finally tells the Cleric but asks why he is interested. The character responds saying these villagers need help and that it is his duty to help those in need leaving the Inn.

Start: The player starts outside the village entrance and needs to move inside only to find that the whole place is moody, dirty and quiet with only a few people skulking outside their homes. The player can tryinteracting with some of these NPC’s but will find that they either won’t speak or just tell you to go away. The player should then move to the local Tavern to see if they can get any information on what exactly to do next. An old lady will tell you that the problem lies within the forest but what that problem exactly is she does not know, only that it won’t go away with everyone sulking everyday and doing nothing. The player can now go into the forest the next day.

Tutorial:It is morning and the player can now move into the forest. This part could act as some Tutorial to show the player that they can jump and how to get past obstacles e.g. jumping over a gap or moving a giant tree branch out the way of the path. As the player enters the forest things don’t look to bad at first but as they venture further inward the forest starts to look more moody. Everything is suddenly quiet and the player can now start hearing noises, the player will reach a dead end and see a torn blood stained note on a branch sticking out of a bush. They will have to inspect what this note is and when they do, it will look like somebody hastily scribbled something down spelling out “GET OUT WHILE YOU STILL HAVE THE CHANCE!”.Things will now start to get dramatic as the player will now try to get out and will start hearing noises again only louder and what jumps out in front of him is the most horrifying looking creature making the most horrifying noise and knocks out the character.

Middle: The player’s character will now start to wake up but in some dark, wet, misty cave andwill have to find some type of torch lying around and grabs two stones to light it. The character will start to freak out as there is blood, skeletons and bits of flesh all around him and when the character starts to calm down he finds that these skeletons appear to be the missing villagers. The player will now have to try and find their way out and back into the forest while avoiding the creature at the same time. The player could perhaps find some clues on to what exactly is going on e.g. there could be more notes lying around the place giving clues to what might be the problem, farewell letters to loved ones and so on.

Middle/End: Once the player finds their way out and into the forest they will find that it is dark outside so the torch will still have to be used. As the player moves on they will still have to avoid the creature lurking around the forest and get past obstacles at the same time making it more challenging for the player. They will eventually stumble upon what looks like some sort of Pagan ritual site (perhaps a small shrine) and will see what looks like a person standing on some sort of platform chanting words from a large book. The player will have to stay hidden and see what happens only to find out that the person chanting is none other than the old lady that the character met in the Tavern. She spawns another one of those creatures so it must come to mind that there is more than one of these things but as soon as she finishes chanting she says something to the creature in a demonic tone and leaves shortly after speaking to it. Once she is gone the player must go to the shrine and find a way to destroy it, perhaps by looking into the book the player can find a way to reverse the curse/spell in order to expel the creatures back to wherever they came from. The player will find a Diary left by the old lady adding to the proof that she is responsible for everything and then burn the shrine to the ground.

Ending: Once the player is back at the village the character will then storm into the Tavern where most of the villagers are including the old lady and then tell everyone that she is the one responsible for the curse and show the Diary to everyone which describes in detail how she did it. The villagers start to shout Witch where she will then start to act weird and say something demonic. Out of instinct the Cleric pulls out his holy insignia and throw it at her where she then tries to avoid it but isn’t quick enough. The insignia hits her only to glow brightly and set her on fire ending her wickedness while all the villagers are startled they eventually start cheering. The game ends with a load of drinks around the Cleric while everyone is celebrating throughout the night ending the game.

Software/Programs
3D: Maya, 3DS Max, Z Brush, Mudbox
2D: Photoshop
Coding: Java Script or C++
iPi Soft could be used to help with the animation for the NPC’s, the Creature etc.
